What We Can Do To Help

For even the most joyful of people, discoloured and yellow teeth can be a serious hit to your confidence. Teeth whitening is one of the most popular services we offer, and can be done either in the office or in the comfort of your own home. With the right whitening approach for you, you’ll get that smile back in no time!

Teeth Whitening — What Is It?

Everyone starts out with white teeth, but over time they can easily become discoloured and stained by common foods and beverages like coffee and tea. Teeth whitening will bleach your teeth to remove these stains and enhance their natural colour.

In addition to Zoom whitening, there are a number of ways you can whiten your teeth.

At-Home: If you would prefer to whiten at home, the dental staff at DHG will take an impression of your teeth and then make you a custom whitening tray. You will be given a take home kit of peroxide whitener which you will place in the trays and then into your mouth. This whitener will effectively bleach your teeth. You can wear the trays for up to 45 minutes during the day or overnight, depending on the strength of the whitening agent. Alternatively, you could try teeth whitening toothpastes by yourself at home, but they won’t prove nearly as effective as a solution a dentist can provide for you. Unlike bleaching solutions, whitening toothpastes won’t change the colour of your teeth, but they will remove stains.

In-Office: In a “chairside bleaching,” your hygienist will first apply a protective gel to your gums, and then apply a more strenuous bleaching agent to your teeth. This kind of whitening should only take one visit to take effect, though your dentist may have you return for more.

Who Should Get Their Teeth Whitened?

Any person who is unhappy with the coloration of their teeth can and should look into teeth whitening. However, it is not recommended for people with sensitive teeth and chipped enamel, as it can increase sensitivities. If this sounds like you, talk to your dentist about other possible solutions.

With white, sparkling teeth, you won’t be able to help flashing your smile. Contact a dental specialist at DHG today to book your appointment and learn more!
